There are quite a few stars who seemed to have got their breakthrough with roles that were rejected by other actors. And it seems that Swara Bhasker is one of them. The actress recently opened up about some of her memorable roles, revealing that she had landed them only after they were rejected by other actors.

In a conversation with Mid-Day, she joked about how most of her filmography consisted of roles that no one else in the industry wanted to do. She talked about how in the 2013 film Raanjhanaa, she was the last person to be cast, and was given the role only because there was a cancellation at the last minute. Similarly, in 2015’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, the makers had approached the actress after realising that few stars were not willing to essay the role of Salman Khan’s sister in the film.

The actress also gave further examples in the form of movies such as Nil Battey Sannata (2016), Anaarkali of Aarah (2017) and Veere Di Wedding (2018). In the latter, Bhasker said that she had to convince Rhea Kapoor, when Kapoor was figuring out who to cast. In Anaarkali of Aarah, she said that director Avinash Das had approached her after a period of almost two and a half years, after Das had approached a lot of other people.

Bhasker revealed that when she had accepted a role in Nil Battey Sannata, many had had their doubts. “In Nil Battey Sannata, people actually said to me that this is career suicide, and Nil Battey remains the most special film of my career, like literally gave me my identity,” she said.
