Apart from Kunal Kemmu’s Madgaon Express, Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, featuring Randeep Hooda, released in theatres today. The movie has unfortunately not earned as expected. In fact, in terms of early Box Office reports, it has minted much lesser than Madgaon Express as well. The movie is predominantly in Marathi and while it is a good collection for the language, it still has to hold up to become a hit.

Early BO

Swatantrya Veer Savarkar has earned Rs. 1.15 crores on its opening day, according to Sacnilk.com. The film is performing slightly poorer than Madgaon Express but even that is not a great standard to begin with. Nonetheless, for a regional language film, the collections are fairly good.

How much did Madgaon Express mint?

Kunal Kemmu’s directorial debut film Madgaon Express has earned Rs. 1.5 crores on the opening day, according to the same report. The movie saw a slow opening in comparison to recent theatrical releases.

In comparison

Madgaon Express is performing well in Mumbai’s Thane district, followed by Pune. Meanwhile, Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, also featuring Ankita Lokhande, is best performing in Maharashtra. In fact, it is performing better than Madgaon Express in most parts of Maharashtra. Unfortunately, neither of the movies are such that they appeal to the Northern regions of India. This becomes more so the case with Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, which is a Marathi film. Beyond Bangalore (and even that is a stretch), the movie might not work. Madgaon Express, being the story based in Goa, is already connecting with people in Maharashtra and Gujarat and might appeal to the Southern regions of India if the word-of-mouth grows strong in the coming days. Nonetheless, the opening for both the films currently is poor and there is very little hope for either of them at this given point in time. However, the weekends will help understand the audience perspective better.
