Swathimuthyam, among the three Telugu films that released for Dasara earlier this month, opened to glowing reviews from critics though it didn't perform on expected levels at the box office. Ganesh Bellamkonda made his acting debut with the family entertainer in which Varsha Bollamma played the female lead. Rao Ramesh, Pragathi Suresh, Surekha Vani, Goparaju Ramana, Sri Divya and Vennela Kishore essayed supporting roles. The film premiered on Telugu OTT platform aha on October 24.
The film is finally making right noises in the OTT space. Within four days, the light-hearted entertainer registered record viewership on aha, clocking 50 million minutes, a special feat, given it has come solely due to the credibility of the content. Swathimuthyam has all the ingredients in the right mix to work with audiences on OTT - humour, romance, good music and emotions. The terrific writing, the meaty characterisation and the strong performances contribute to the impact.
Mahati Swara Sagar scored the music for the film which has cinematography by Suryaa and is edited by Navin Nooli. S Naga Vamsi had produced the film under Sithara Entertainments in collaboration with Fortune Four Cinemas.
The story revolves around Balamurali Krishna, a timid government employee on the cusp of marriage. When Bala nearly gives up hope on the matches coming his way, cupid strikes him as he meets Bhagya Lakshmi. The latter takes time to trust him and just when it looks like any other ‘they live happily ever after’ tale, there’s mayhem. Will Bala get out of the mess and marry Bhagya Lakshmi?
