The team of Taaanakkaran recently released a special video of the making of the film as it completed 25 days of release. The film's lead actor Vikram Prabhu, released the video on his social media handle and wrote, "Grateful馃檹馃槉#Taanakkaran Making Video to celebrate 25 days 馃帀馃槑 #TaanakkaranStreamingNow : http://hotstar.com/1260090727 鈻讹笍 http://youtu.be/-qjrVaeSxaQ @ianjalinair @GhibranOfficial @philoedit @madheshmanickam @directortamil77 @prabhu_sr @johnsoncinepro @disneyplusHSTam (sic)."

Taanakkaran is a period drama written and directed by Tamizh. The film marks his directorial debut. The star cast for the film includes Vikram Prabhu. Anjali Nair of Nedunalvaadai fame , Lal, Livingston, MS Bhaskar and Madhusudhan Rao. The plot is inspired from some real-life incidents in police training in the state police department that happened in 1997. Music for the film is by Ghibran, cinematography is by Madhesh Manickam and editing is by Philomin Raj.

Vikram Prabhu, who played a police trainee in Taanakkaran, had revealed that shoot for the film was a strenous task and was physically and mentally demanding. He had then shared on his social media handle, "Happy to be part of this storytelling. Truly a tough script to shoot, physically and mentally demanding but we had a team that worked together to achieve something special. Wishes to my entire team & as always, need your love & support (sic)."

The film's director Tamizh is a former associate of Vetri Maaran. The director had stated that he had spent an entire year to work on the film, setting up the story and selecting the star cast. The shoot was wrapped up in 2020 before the pandemic struck. The film was released directly on OTT.

Interestingly, Tamizh had played a brutal police officer SI Gurumoorthy in TJ Gnanavel's critically acclaimed film Jai Bhim. His performance was much appreciated by the audience and crictics alike. Vikram Prabhu, in the meantime, also has Mani Ratnam's magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan and Paayum Oli Nee Enakku in his kitty.
