After playing sharpshooter in Saand Ki Aankh, and athlete in Rashmi Rocket, Taapsee Pannu has portrayed legendary cricketer Mithali Raj in her biopic Shabaash Mithu. However, Srijit Mukherji’s sports drama failed to impress the box office numbers after its release on July 15. Meanwhile, soon after it was dropped on Netflix last week, the film started trending in the number one position in India on the streaming site. Shabaash Mithu, in fact, took over Alia Bhatt’s Darling to trend at number one.

Taapsee took to her social media handle to thank her friends. “Thank you, everyone! My phone hasn’t stopped buzzing since #ShabaashMithu has been released on the OTT platform. I am not sure how I feel exactly coz I would’ve liked all of u to watch it in theatres but nevertheless I am glad you all saw our little gem hard work never goes unnoticed,” she wrote, along with the screenshot of Netflix home page.

Director Srijit Mukherji also posted the same on his social media handles. He wrote, “Thank you for all the love and congratulations to the team!:) #1Trending #NetflixIndia.”

Before the release of the film, the maker and the actress were optimistic about the content. In a press conference when Taapsee was asked why she accepted Shabaash Mithu, she said that this film is historic as this is the first film on women’s cricket in India. “There will not be another film on Mithali Raj. I am privileged, proud and lucky to be doing this character which will go down in history,” she said.

Meanwhile, Taapsee will soon be seen in Anuraag Kashyap’s Dobara. The film will hit the theatres on August 18. She will also work with Shah Rukh Khan in Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki.
