Taapsee Pannu is among the leading actors in Bollywood. After proving her mettle in films such as Thappad, Badla, and Dobaaraa, she will soon be seen alongside Shah Rukh Khan in Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki. After completing 10 years in Bollywood, the actress, who is known to be quite vocal, has spoken about the existence of ‘camps’ in Bollywood and how she makes her choices in this ‘unfair game’.
Speaking to the Hindustan Times, Taapsee revealed, "Yes, Bollywood camps aren’t something that people don’t know about. It’s been there forever. It can be based on an actor’s friend circle or a certain agency or group that they’re a part of, and people’s loyalties differ based on that."
However, holding no grudges against these camps, Taapsee said that everyone should have the right to choose whoever they want to work with or have in their films, and that she cannot blame them for thinking about their own careers.
Speaking about the attitude towards ‘outsiders’ in the film industry, Taapsee said that she never thought that the game was going to be fair. "I always knew that it was going to be biased. So, why crib about it now? For me, the rule of the game is that it’s going to be unfair. The tide is going to be against you most of the time. And if, after all that, you still decide to be a part of this industry, then it’s your choice, and you can’t complain about it later."
Taapsee added that she does not know of any profession, apart from sports, where camps and favouritism do not exist. The results are fair and square and proportional to one's talent, and they are not dependent on luck.
Taapsee made her Bollywood debut with Chashme Baddoor in 2013, but gained popularity after appearing in films such as Baby and Pink, which released in 2015 and 2016, respectively.
She has not looked back since and has worked with critically acclaimed directors like Anurag Kashyap, Anubhav Sinha, Sujoy Ghosh, and others.
Earlier, Hollywood sensation Priyanka Chopra Jonas had also opened up about her struggles in Bollywood. She had spoken about the presence of camps in the film industry and said that she was cornered in Bollywood.
