When Taapsee Pannu announced that she plays the female lead in Dunki, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the actor tweeted the iconic dialogue of the lead actor, Shah Rukh Khan, from Om Shanti Om. The Thappad actor, during a recent media group interaction, spoke about her excitement about working with SRK in Dunki and cited that it might be the only opportunity she might get in her career.
Taapsee stated, "I was feeling very excited and still am whenever I'm not on that set. I'm forced to switch off that switch because I feel that if I keep feeling like that fangirl while I'm at work with him, I'm not going to do my job properly and then later on I'm going to look back at that one opportunity that I got and I messed it up."
The actor also said that she made sure she didn't fangirl when she was in the same frame as Shah Rukh. Taapsee further shared, "If you're going to keep fangirling, I can't treat him like a co-star. So at least when I'm in front of the camera, I try to switch off that mode. I try to avoid looking at him like he is 'the' Shah Rukh Khan, which is very very tough for someone whose introduction to Hindi movies happened through someone like him."
The Saand Ki Aankh actor added, "My forever favourite Hindi film is Chak De! India, which is a Shah Rukh Khan film. So it is very hard for me to switch off that side, but I have no other option because I will not get another chance if I'm fangirling and if I'm not good enough in the frame next to him."
The Dunki shoot is underway in Mumbai and will hit the big screens in December 2023. This is the first time SRK and Hirani have collaborated on a film.
