Actor Siddharth has been away from the limelight for quite some time and the fact that he has only two releases in the past four years enunciates this. Once known to be quite prolific and proactive, Siddharth managed to etch a unique filmography for himself over the years with his 'boy next door'/'lover boy' image, in particular, yielding him great results in Telugu and Tamil cinema.
Siddharth would also dare to experiment on several occasions with films like Rang De Basanti, Striker, Midnight's Children and Enakkul Oruvan, among others, allowing him to explore and flex his muscles as an actor. Though a few of these outings did not prove to be commercially viable, his admirers and movie buffs, in general, have regarded them as his best work to date.
So, when Siddharth returned to the realm in 2023 with a new romantic actioner Takkar, one hoped to see the return of the familiar charm. The actor plays a happy-go-lucky young guy named Gunashekhar 'Guns' whose only aim in life is to get rich and much of the film is about how this pursuit of his leads to unforeseen complications. The film released in theatres on June 9, 2023.
Co-written and directed by Karthik G. Krish, Takkar also stars Divyansha Kaushik, Abhimanyu Singh, Yogi Babu and others. Nivas K. Prasanna scored the music with Vanchinathan Murugesan handling the cinematography.
And now, following a slightly underwhelming theatrical run, the film is all set to make its debut on OTT. Takkar will start streaming on Netflix on Friday, July 7. Other reports reveal that the film's satellite rights have been picked up by the Star Network.
Although Takkar packed a lot of promise ahead of its theatrical release because one believed in Siddharth's wisdom to select enterprising material. However, unfortunately, the film failed to deliver on that promise and the largely mixed-to-negative reviews that followed potentially stunted the film's growth. Many criticised the jarring narrative and the contrivances it is filled with, along with the slightly dated storytelling approach.
On the other hand, Siddharth's upcoming line-up of films includes Indian 2, Chiththa and Test. One does expect to see him bounce back with a bang with this exciting slew of releases.
