Dhanush-starrer Karnan has already captivated audiences in theatres, leading to tremendous collections at the Box Office. Amazon Prime Video has grabbed the digital release rights for the film and will stream this action-drama film soon.

Dhanush’s latest Tamil film Karnan has already got cash registers ringing in the box office. Despite the 50 per cent occupancy in theatres due to COVID-19 restrictions, the film has reportedly already collected over Rs 80 crore and should soon enter the Rs 100 crore club.
It shouldn’t be long before audiences can enjoy Karnan from the comfort of their homes too as Amazon Prime Video has bagged the OTT rights of Mari Selvaraj’s Tamil blockbuster. After Netflix grabbed the OTT premiere for Dhanush’s Jagame Thandhiram, this win in the form of Karnan has proved monumental for Amazon Prime Video.
The plot of Karnan follows the titular character (played by Dhanush) who is a rural youth fighting for the rights of the people of his village. Belonging to a marginalised community that has faced decades of oppression, the people of the village are harassed by dominant caste groups, aided by government officials and police men who wish to further suppress the oppressed. The story depicts the struggles of the community until they finally take a stand against casteism and police brutality. This movement is led by Karnan.
The shooting of the film was halted for nine months due to the COVID-19 lockdown in India. Karnan also stars Lal Paul, Yogi Babu and Malayalam actress Rajisha Vijayan, who is making her Tamil debut in this movie.
Though Karnan has only recently released theatrically, its makers might move to digital platforms soon in order to ensure that their sales are not affected. Karnan is expected to stream on Amazon Prime Video by May 2021. An official date of release though is awaited.
