Netflix’s Taskaree: The Smuggler's Web dives deep into the dangerous underbelly of global smuggling. Helmed by Neeraj Pandey (the director of A Wednesday!, M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, Special Ops), the series arrives on January 14, 2025, on Netflix. The recently released trailer offers Emraan Hashmi as a sharp, no-nonsense customs officer, taking a global smuggling empire led by Bada Chaudhary (Sharad Kelkar).
The trailer of Taskaree: The Smuggler's Web shows it is set across major smuggling routes spanning Al-Dera, Addis Ababa, Milan and Bangkok. Taskaree (smuggler) uncovers the layers of the international smuggling network, a maze of coded routes, fake manifests and deliberate misdirection.
At its core is a specialised customs task force operating from Mumbai International Airport, led by a dedicated team of officers: Arjun Meena (Emraan Hashmi), Mitali Kamath (Amruta Khanvilkar), Ravinder Gujjar (Nandish Singh Sandhu) and Prakash Kumar (Anurag Sinha). Guided equally by instinct and intelligence, they know that a single overlooked detail can break weeks of meticulous surveillance.
They face off against Bada Chaudhary (Sharad Kelkar), a notorious kingpin running a global syndicate, Choudhary Syndicate, built to stay off the radar. Taskaree unfolds a tense cat-and-mouse chase through the world of global smuggling, where secrets travel with every passenger and customs officers race to stay ahead of calculated fraud.
The whole trailer gives a major vibe of Neera Pandey's series, Special Ops, led by Kay Kay Menon. In Special Ops, Himmat Singh (Menon), a Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) agent, pieces together patterns from major terrorist attacks to identify and hunt down the masterminds with his team.
Creator Neeraj Pandey shared that customs have been a world he has always wanted to explore. The idea of stepping inside customs enforcement, a space that operates quietly, precisely and under constant pressure, drew him in.
"Bringing this vision to life has been incredibly exciting, especially with a cast and crew who were completely invested from day zero and understood the rhythm and realism the story demanded. We’re thrilled to collaborate once again with Netflix after a successful franchise with Khakee. What we’ve created together is a very distinct crime thriller, rooted in authenticity and hope we live up to the expectations of our audiences, whose encouragement has always kept us going!” he said.
Emraan Hashmi expressed his excitement over the positive response to the teaser, noting that Taskari is his first collaboration with Neeraj Pandey and the talented actors. He portrays a grounded and intelligent portrayal of heroism in the series, where he emphasises quiet courage, discipline, and duty rather than overt bravery.
"What stood out to me about the series was its grounded, intelligent take on heroism — a story driven by quiet courage, discipline and duty rather than loud bravado. The entire cast and crew have worked relentlessly to bring this world to life, and I’m looking forward to audiences finally experiencing it on screen," Hashmi shared.
