Taking to its Instagram handle on Thursday, Netflix shared the new poster and release date of upcoming teenage rom-com, Kissing Booth 3. Based on the books of the same name by Beth Reekles, Kissing Booth franchise was one of the first original films produced by Netflix, and went on to become a ravaging hit among the younger audiences of the streaming platform, in spite of being panned by critics as overly cliché.
It was the success of the Kissing Booth trilogy that partially motivated Netflix to generate more teen-driven content over the past few years, increasing its popularity among Gen Z.
The coming-of-age movies chronicle the love story of Elle Evans, her best friend Lee Flynn and Lee’s older brother Noah, as they navigate the rough waters of school, secret romance and strained personal relationships.
Returning to their recurring roles are artistes Joey King as Elle, Joel Courtney as Lee and Jacob Elordi as Noah, picking up the story from where they left in Kissing Booth 2. At the end of the second movie, we see Elle getting accepted in both Berkeley and Harvard, which are Lee’s and Noah’s colleges, respectively. Thus, she is at a dilemma to choose which college - whether to stay with her best friend or her sort-of boyfriend – which may become the major plot point in the third part of the trilogy.
The poster assures that the much-anticipated film will be, “the end of an era” and “the start of everything else,” showing Elle alongside Noah and Lee. The third instalment would mark the end of the Kissing Booth trilogy, and is scheduled to stream on Netflix from August 11.
