Srijit Mukherji’s film Tekka will be released during Puja and the promotion of the film is in full swing. This is the time when Bengali people shower unconditional love to movies. However, this year, the picture is different. People have been protesting against the heinous rape and murder of a doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. Many people took an oath not to return to the festival. Dev, Swastika Mukherjee, and Srijit have been trolled for their promotional moves.

Dev became vocal about the RG Kar incident and came to the street. He said that poor people earn from Durga Puja, and he wanted to continue both the festival and the protest. The actor told the news media, “The dhakis who are coming for ten days are not criminals. They also want justice. To many small businessmen, the business of these five or six days equals their earnings of five or six months. They also want justice. If one of my films gets released, 20 or 25 people will get to work. If it is released in one hundred halls, it affects six to seven thousand people. Yes, we are sad. But if a film runs well, these people will earn well. They will then install CCTVs for safety and increase security for the safety of women. The entire thing is a system. In order to get justice, you can’t do injustice to many people.’

Dev also demanded capital punishment so that rape culture can be eradicated from the country. He has been arguing in favor of the harshest punishment to the central government.

Dev played in Srijit Mukherji’s film after a long time. He plays Iqlakh, a cleaner. He one day kidnaps a schoolgirl who is the daughter of Swastika Mukherjee. Rukmini Maitra is a cop who negotiates with Dev to free the girl.

People have previously seen hostage dramas that question the system. A Thursday, starring Yami Gautam, is one such film where a play-school teacher kidnaps the entire school of kids. The taut suspense of the film was liked by the audience. It remains to see how the magic of Srijit-Dev-Swastika-Rukmini plays here.
