After an immensely successful second season of Unstoppable with NBK and the terrific box-office response to Veera Simha Reddy, Nandamuri Balakrishna resumed shooting for his next film with director Anil Ravipudi recently. In between the shoot, he also found time to be a part of the fifth episode of Telugu OTT platform aha’s singing reality show Telugu Indian Idol (Season 2).
The fifth episode of the show, titled Gala with Bala, which premiered on Friday, was special for many reasons. Balakrishna entered the show in style by crooning for a rap number to introduce the top 12 contestants (the song was made out of the names of the participants). He was a sport, cracking jokes, pulling the legs of his judges and interacting enthusiastically with the budding singers.
Balakrishna even played with Mihira, daughter to playback singer Sowjanya on the show and cheekily asked her to be the leading lady in the films starring him, his son and his grandsons. He was quite impressed with the rendition of the Simha title track by another contestant, a 21-year-old Lasya Priya, who hails from Siddipet. Her grandma, who’s reportedly a huge fan of late NTR, shared the stage with Balakrishna.
The Veera Simha Reddy star and Lasya Priya’s grandma shared the mic to sing Nannu Dochukunduvate, the popular song from NTR’s Gulebakavali Katha. “When I see you, I am always reminded of your father (NTR),” she said. In response, “Whenever I see my fans like you, I am reminded of my mother Basava Rama Tarakam,” he stated.
That’s not all, Balakrishna made a bobbattu for the elderly woman on the sets of Telugu Indian Idol 2 and won many hearts. “If you stay with me, we could make more bobbattus and have a gala time,” he said. The star’s Sankranthi release, Veera Simha Reddy, is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar across multiple languages.
