Telugu Indian Idol 2: Shreya Ghoshal hails contestant Sowjanya Bhagavathula’s rendition of her popular song

There’s no greater joy for an aspirant than to be noticed and complimented by their own idol. Sowjanya Bhagavathula, best known for singing the number Gundelona in the blockbuster Arjun Reddy, is also one of the contestants in the second edition of Telugu Indian Idol, streaming on aha. She received the surprise of her life when Shreya Ghoshal responded to one of her performances in the show.

Sowjanya recently floored the judges S Thaman, Geetha Madhuri, Karthik with her rendition of Ekimeeda, a duet from Balakrishna’s Gauthamiputra Sathakarni. S Thaman, who was clearly impressed by her mettle, shared the link of her performance with the original singer Shreya Ghoshal and got her to respond to it through a video in this week’s episode.

While singing Ekimeeda again, Shreya said, “Dear Sowjanya..you’ve sung it so beautifully..I just saw a clip of yours, which my dear friend Thaman garu sent. You’ve a voice that’s just like butter on toast - so sweet and mellifluous, just like a river flowing. I want to hear you more and I love your singing so much.” Understandably, an overjoyed Sowjanya was nearly left teary-eyed.

Leading musicians like Vishal Dadlani and Himesh Reshammiya too shared their love and support for the aha Telugu Indian Idol contestants in the last episode. Aha’s marketing head Kartheek Kanumuru said the team was thrilled to see the Telugu Indian Idol 2 contestants winning hearts of audiences and musicians across the country, claiming it as a true reflection of their talent.

The show now has top 11 contestants competing for top honours. After two weekends with popular celebs like Balakrishna and composer Koti, this week’s episodes will be graced by noted musician Baba Sehgal. In one of the promos, the latter also came up with an impromptu song dedicated to Sowjanya. Both the episodes this weekend will stream on aha on March 31 and April 1.
