Filmmaker Deepak Reddy imagined his short Manasanamaha, more so as a pilot for his big, feature film debut, and made it with all the love he could, a couple of years ago. Starring Viraj Ashwin and Drishika Chander in lead roles, the short with an unconventional narrative style is an intriguing look at the love life of a youngster across several seasons.
However, as the film released on Youtube during lockdown, the love for Manasanamaha grew by leaps and bounds and was eventually also dubbed across multiple languages. Gradually, the short started making a splash at most film festivals across the globe and ended up winning on most occasions. The short came very close to being nominated at the Academy Awards and BAFTA as well.
Now, it is officially the most awarded film ever in the history of cinema and has entered the Guinness Book of World Records. Manasanamaha won over 900 awards in total and Deepak Reddy, who’s set to helm his first feature film shortly, couldn’t have asked for a better start to the career. The short also starred Valli Raghvender, Prithvi Sharma and Bunny Abhiran.
Manasanamaha was produced by Shilpa Gajjala. Edurolu Raju had cinematographed the film which had music by Kamran. Kala Studio has edited the short while Sulochana Surapu was the creative producer. Other crew includes the art director Prashanti Chakravarthi and line producer Vincent Praveen.
