Madhu Babu is a Telugu writer whose thrillers, detective novels enjoyed immense popularity among the masses several decades ago. Several modern-day filmmakers consider his works as a reference point for their movies today as well. There’s exciting news for the writer’s fans. A web series, based on his best-selling novels, is in the works. The news was confirmed by director Sarath Mandava today.
Reports suggest that Sarath Mandava, who directed Ravi Teja’s Ramarao on Duty recently, has acquired the adaptation rights of all his novels recently. A picture featuring him and Madhu Babu together further confirms this development. While one isn’t aware of the book title(s) being considered for the adaptation, we hear that work surrounding the project is all set to commence soon.
“In the first season of the web show, each episode will be helmed by several notable directors from the South Indian film industry,” the source further adds. The formalities surrounding the OTT platform, adaptation, casting and other technical crew are being worked out. However, given the racy narratives of Madhu Babu, one can expect an engaging web show to come out of this.
This isn’t the only instance where Telugu novels are serving as an inspiration for web shows. Chalam’s Maidanam, Bandi Narayana Swami’s Saptabhumi are in contention to be made as web originals soon as well. One must also pay heed to the fact that Krish Jagarlamudi was the showrunner of 9 Hours, a web-series inspired by Malladi Venkata Krishna Murthy’s novel titled Tommidi Gantalu.
Sarath Mandava is expected to be the showrunner for the web series involving Madhu Babu’s works. His Telugu debut, Ramarao on Duty, featured Ravi Teja, Rajisha Vijayan, Divyansha Kaushik and Venu Thottempudi and released earlier this year. The film, produced by Sudhakar Cherukuri under Sri Lakshmi Venkateswara Cinemas, is now streaming on SonyLIV.
