Thaai Kizhavi actor Radikaa Sarathkumar on letting go of doing Indian: I did not want to put on that make-up

Actor Radikaa Sarathkumar is set to play the lead role in the upcoming Tamil film Thaai Kizhavi. The actor, who is known for her works as lead actor in the 80s and 90s across Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam, is currently promoting the film. In a recent interview, Radikaa mentioned one iconic Tamil film that she let go of doing, because she was comfortable wearing its make-up.

In an interview with Galatta Plus, actor Radikaa Sarathkumar was asked what was that one film she had to let go and not do, to which she answered the Kamal Haasan-starrer Indian. Radikaa was supposed to have done Sukanya's role in the film which required her to wear heavy make-up for the aged effect.

"There are many films, but it has to be Indian. I did not want to put on the make-up and I found it difficult. It scared me. Then, there is Mudhal Mariyadhai that I was supposed to do. But I had Swathi Muthyam also around the same time, and Bharathiraja asked me to take up that project which had Kamal Haasan and K Viswanath. However, he asked me to dub for Radha in Mudhal Mariyadhai, which I did," she mentioned.

Thaai Kizhavi is an upcoming Tamil rural film starring Radikaa Sarathkumar in the lead role. The film is produced by Sivakarthikeyan and helmed by debutant Sivakumar Murugesan. It is slated for a theatrical release on February 20. Intestingly, Radikaa had to undergo heavy prosthetic make-up for her look in Thai Kizhavi.

The story of Thaai Kizhavi centres on Radikaa Sarathkumar, who plays Pavunithaayi, a bold, unapologetic, elderly village moneylender whose boisterous personality and imposing presence, leave the villagers scared an irked at the same time. The cast of the film also includes Singam Puli, Arul Doss, Munishkanth, Bala Saravanan, Ilavarasu, Muthukumar, George Maryan and Raichal Rebecca, among others.
