Thalaivar 170 will reunite two Indian cinema icons, Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth, on the big screen after a very long time.
Superstar Rajinikanth on Tuesday flew to Mumbai to join the next schedule of his upcoming movie, which has been temporarily titled Thalaivar 170. This schedule will be special as he will be joined by Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan.
Director TJ Gnanavel has pulled off a casting coup of sorts by roping in Amitabh Bachchan for a key role in the movie. This movie will reunite two Indian cinema icons, Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth, on the big screen after a very long time.
It's noteworthy that at the beginning days of their careers, the two acting legends shared screen space together. They both were seen together in Geraftaar (1985) and Hum (1991). It's while making Hum, that Rajinikanth was struck by an idea for a gangster movie set against the backdrop of Mumbai.
The camaraderie between Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth
Inspired by Hum, Rajinikanth wanted to make a movie about an ordinary man with an extraordinary past. And it became the cult classic Baashha. The 1995 movie, written and directed by Suresh Krissna, redefined mainstream Tamil cinema at the time.
While Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth didn't appear on the big screen together for a long time, they never missed an opportunity to show their mutual respect and admiration for each other.
It would be a treat for the fans to finally see the two legends back together on the silver screen.
Written and directed by Gnanavel, Thalaivar 170 went on the floors a few weeks ago. The shooting began in Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram amid a lot of fanfare. And the shooting has been going at a brisk pace in several parts of the country. The shooting also took place in Tirunelveli for several days.
In Thalaivar 170, Rajinikanth is said to play the role of a retired cop. However, an official confirmation on the same is awaited. The movie also stars Rana Daggubati, Fahadh Faasil, Manju Warrier, Dushara Vijayan and Ritika Singh among others.
