Lyca Productions on Tuesday unveiled the title teaser of its next production, temporarily titled Thalaivar 170, coinciding with the 73rd birthday of Superstar Rajinikanth. The film has been officially titled Vettaiyan, one of the iconic characters played by Rajinikanth in the 2005 horror-comedy movie Chandramukhi.

The teaser opens with Rajinikanth reading a book about Subhash Chandra Bose, hinting at the character's core ideology. He plays a high-ranking police officer, who seems to be on a mission.

Director TJ Gnanavel, known for the impactful Jai Bhim, is at the helm of Vettaiyan. However, this upcoming film is diametrically opposite to Jai Bhim in terms of its feel, look and treatment. Vettaiyan packs the usual stylistic and heroic moments that we expect to see in a Rajinikanth film.

The vibe of Vettaiyan is somewhat very similar to Rajinikanth's Jailer. And the teaser ends with a punchline, "If we aim, prey must fall."

Rajinikanth is sharing the screen space with none other than Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan. The dynamic duo, last seen together in films like Geraftaar (1985) and Hum (1991), is making a powerful comeback.

But the star power doesn't end there. Thalaivar 170 boasts an ensemble cast featuring Rana Daggubati, Fahadh Faasil, Manju Warrier, Dushara Vijayan, and Ritika Singh, creating one of the grandest line-ups in Tamil cinema.

2023 had been a great year for Rajinikanth. His latest film Jailer became one of the highest-grossing Tamil films of 2023, with more than Rs 600 crore from its worldwide ticket sales.

In the meantime, he also has a slew of interesting films in the works. Rajinikanth will be next seen in an extended cameo in Lal Salaam, written and directed by Aishwarya Rajinikanth. Based on the teaser, the film is set against a communally charged background and is believed to be a strong commentary on the ills of hate politics. Rajinikanth plays the role of a Muslim leader named Moideen Bhai. The film is due in cinemas during the Pongal festival next year.

After completing Thalaivar 170, Rajinikanth will next join the sets of Thalaivar 171, which will be written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj.
