Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj’s ambitious project Thalaivar 171, which is currently in its production stage, has been in the news lately. The makers of the film, who are yet to release the title and teaser, are planning to drop major updates this month. However, the latest buzz surrounding the Rajinikanth-starrer has left many fans excited. According to a few sources, iconic actress and dancer Shobana has been roped in to play a pivotal role in the upcoming film.
Reports suggest that the popular actress might play one of the key roles in the film. Although an official confirmation is awaited regarding the same, this new speculation has created further hype about the film among netizens who have been waiting to see the Thalapathi stars share screen space once again.
For the unversed, Shobana first played Rajinikanth’s love interest in Mani Ratnam’s blockbuster gangster drama Thalapathi (1991). They later starred together in the animated period drama Kochadaiyaan (2014). If the latest rumours turn out to be true, fans will get to see their favourite on-screen couple share a frame once again!
Title of Thalaivar 171 to be announced on April 22
Earlier, the makers of Thalaivar 171 had unveiled the first-look poster of Rajinikanth which was well-received by fans and cinephiles. In a monochromatic picture, Rajinikanth is seen in a denim shirt and black shades with a villainous look. His hands are cuffed with several golden watches. The makers also announced that the title of the film will be revealed on April 22.
Thalaivar 171 inspired by Hollywood film?
According to a few reports, Thalaivar 171 is said to be inspired by the 2013 Hollywood film The Purge. The plot of the Hollywood film follows the American government, which allows a period of 12 hours annually, during which all criminal activities are legal. During the same period, one can’t call the cops, or even hospitals can’t deny help to the victims. This theme has never been explored in Indian cinema, and if it’s really inspired by The Purge, Thalaivar 171 will be an exciting film to look out for! Moreover, Lokesh has previously drawn inspiration from Hollywood films for his movies. Vijay-starrer Leo was based on the film The History of Violence.
