Thalaivar 173: Kamal Haasan to produce Rajinikanth’s next; Sundar C directs

The much-awaited announcement of actor Rajinikanth’s next has been made, and that too in style. Produced by none other than Rajinikanth’s long term friend and fellow veteran Kamal Haasan, the project, tentatively titled Thalaivar 173, will be helmed by Sundar C.

The talks that Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth will be reuniting after nearly three decades, had been going on for a while. We may need to wait a little longer to know if the two doyens of Tamil cinema will share the screen pace once again, but for now, Rajinikanth will be starring in a film to be produced by Kamal Haasan.

The project, for now, is called Thalaivar 173, and will be helmed by Sundar C. The director had given the hit 1997 Arunachalam starring Rajinikanth, and will be working with the superstar after 28 years. Sundar C, who gave this year’s first blockbuster Madha Gaja Raja, and has already two films in the pipeline, will be reuniting with Rajinikanth, in what looks like the most awaited collaboration from Tamil cinema.

"This landmark collaboration not only unites two towering forces of Indian cinema but also celebrates five decades of friendship and brotherhood between Superstar Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, a bond that continues to inspire generations of artists and audiences alike," said the note from the makers. Thalaivar 173 is scheduled for a theatrical release for Pongal 2027. The cast and crew of the film are yet to be announced by the makers.

Sundar C’s upcoming line-up

Sundar C already has two films in the pipeline apart from Thalaivar 173. He is helming the upcoming devotional fantasy Mookuthi Amman 2 which is headlined by Nayanthara. The director also recently announced a film with actor Vishal. Both the film are under production with release dates to be revealed later.
