A few months ago, huge speculation did the rounds on social media with regard to Vijay's next project. There were reports that he will be teaming up with Tollywood director Vamshi Paidipally for a Tamil film after the star completes Nelson Dilipkumar's ongoing project, Beast. Vamshi flew down to Chennai some time ago to narrate a script for Vijay which lead to the speculation. Later, it was also heard that Dil Raju will bankroll the project which will be made simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu languages. Looks like the project is on and an official announcement on the same is likely to happen in October.
According to sources, the project, which will be Vijay's 66th movie (also known as Thalapathy 66 among the star's fans and industry insiders), will be a big-budget flick, for which the actor is expected to take home a never-before-heard remuneration for a South Indian hero. Fans of the star, who are already elated over some of the recent updates on Beast, started taking to Twitter to express their excitement with several posts with the hashtag #Thalapathy66."
Vamshi Paidipally had earlier directed Thozha in Tamil five years ago, which was also made as Oopiri in Telugu, with Nagarjuna and Karthi playing lead roles in it. He then went on to make Maharshi with Mahesh Babu which won National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment at 67th National Film Awards.
Meanwhile, the untitled project will mark producer Dil Raju's second film in Kollywood. He made his Tamil debut with the mega project, Indian 2 last year, under Shankar' direction, with Kamal Haasan and other prominent actors like Siddharth, Kajal Aggarwal and Rakul Preet Singh playing key roles in it. Last year, music director Thaman said in an interview that he will compose for a project starring Vijay in the lead. As per industry insiders, Thaman was hinting at Vijay-Vamshi combination, which the industry is now eagerly looking forward to.
