“Couldn’t have asked for a better debut in Tamil” – that’s how Kumbalangi Nights and Thaneer Mathan Dinangal actor Mathew Thomas described his casting in the much-anticipated film helmed by Vikram director Lokesh Kanagaraj and starring Vijay.

Tentatively titled Thalapathy 67, the movie’s team announced its major cast members on Tuesday including Sanjay Dutt, Priya Anand, Gautham Vasudev Menon and Mysskin. The Malayalam audience also had enough to cheer with Mathew being one of them. For the youngster, who has a slew of films coming up, it’s a dream debut. However, he could prepare for working with both Vijay and Lokesh, from the experience of the co-star of his upcoming movie Christy.

Malavika Mohanan, who had played the female protagonist in Master, plays the titular character in the upcoming Malayalam movie, which has Mathew as the male lead. The film, which is helmed by debutant Alwin Henry, is scripted by literary heavyweights GR Indugopan and Benyamin, who wrote Aadujeevitham.

In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Indugopan told us that Malavika plays a Poovar-based character in the film. “The movie will capture the beauty of Poovar while telling the story of a teenager and his infatuation,” he said. The film, which is gearing up for release, also has Joy Mathew, Vineeth Vishwam, Rajesh Madhavan, Muthumano, Veena Nair and Sminu Sijo as part of the cast.

Meanwhile, Mathew also has a fun-entertainer titled Neymar coming up that will be released in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi. The movie, which revolves around two youngsters and their fathers, is helmed by debutant Sudhi Maddison. Naslen, Shammi Thilakan, Vijayaraghavan and Johny Antony star in the film which is scripted by Adarsh Sukumaran and Paulson Skariah.

“Neymar is a movie that people of all age groups can watch. It is a complete family entertainer that also has ‘mass’ sequences, action and songs,” said Sudhi, in a previous interview with us.
