Thalapathy Vijay's Leo was expected to take a big opening. However, the trade was not ready to see complete domination by the movie at the box office across the South Indian states. Leo's has opened to a rousing reception from the movie-buffs despite strong competition from Shivarajkumar's Ghost in Karnataka and Nandamuri Balakrishna's Bhagavanth Kesari in the Telugu states.

Leo in Telugu states

Leo has become the biggest opener for Vijay in the Telugu states. The movie is achieving back-to-back housefull shows both in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. As per the trade sources, the movie has recoupled 50 per cent of the investments already for its stakeholders.

The theatres in both states have also scheduled early morning shows even for the second day to meet the growing demand for the movie. This is despite the impending release of Ravi Teja's period drama Tiger Nageswara Rao on Friday. The movie's two-day earning is estimated to gross Rs 30 crore in the Telugu states alone. And this is a massive achievement for a Vijay movie. To put in context, the lifetime gross of Kamal Haasan's Vikram, which also belongs to the LCU, was about Rs 34 crore.

Leo in Karnataka

Leo has also taken a fantastic start in the Karnataka box office along with Ghost. The movie saw a whopping 228 early-morning shows across Bengaluru. The screening in the city began as early as 4 AM. The movie had raked in more than Rs 10 crore from its advance ticket sales from across Karnataka. And the actual opening day earnings in the state is likely to be a lot bigger.

Leo in Kerala

In Kerala, Leo has overtaken the opening of the biggest blockbusters, including Yash's KGF: Chapter 2 and Rajinikanth's Jailer. Sold-out shows were reported from across Kerala, where the movie's opening day collection is expected to cross Rs 10 crore.

Leo is the biggest opener in the history of the Kerala box office.

Leo in Tamil Nadu

Leo has become a box office juggernaut in Tamil Nadu. According to reports, the earnings from advance ticket sales were close to Rs 19 crore. The trade sources have predicted that the opening day actually could be more than Rs 30 crore in the state.

It's believed that Leo might be the first Tamil film to clock over Rs 100 crore on its opening day from its worldwide ticket sales.
