As Thalapathy Vijay wraps up his work on Vamshi Paidipally's Varisu and the film gears up to hit screens for Pongal, the buzz around his next is growing stronger. The film, which is tentatively being referred to as Thalapathy67, will mark the comeback of the Master duo, Lokesh Kanagaraj and Vijay. In a recent media interaction, Lokesh had revealed that the shoot for Thalapathy67 is likely to begin in December. The pre-production work has been going on for a while. Master was considered to be a massive hit and Lokesh Kanagaraj then moved on to Kamal Haasan's action entertainer Vikram, which turned out to be one of the biggest hits of Ulaganayagan and a milestone in Lokesh Kanagaraj's career.

Thalapathy67 is likely to announce the cast and crew of the film soon. In the meantime, speculations are rife that the team has roped in upcoming Malayalam actor Mathew Thomas for a supporting character. Mathew Thomas was last seen in Prakash Parakkatte. His impressive career trajectory also includes Jo and Jo, Thaneer Mathan Dinangal and Kumbalangi Nights, which marked his debut. If the actor indeed comes on board, Thalapathy67 will mark his debut in the Tamil film industry. Interestingly, Mathew played a Vijay fan in Jo and Jo and his phone ringtone, too, is that of a Vijay chartbuster.

Lokesh had revealed in the media interaction that the work on Thalapathy67 got delayed as Varisu promotions are yet to take off and that an update can be expected in December. The film is said to be an action entertainer, which is expected to take off by the fag end of the year.

Master marked the maiden collaboration of Vijay and Lokesh Kanagaraj and the plot revolved around an alcoholic professor, who takes up a teaching job at a juvenile home and later takes on a dreaded gangster called Bhavani, played by Vijay Sethupathi. The film had an ensemble star cast including Malavika Mohanan, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj, Andrea Jeremiah, Gouri G Kishan, Arjun Das, Poovaiyar to name a few. Music for the film was by Anirudh Ravichander.
