Bollywood Hungama reported that Thamma is the most expensive film of Maddock’s Horror Comedy Universe. The report mentions that internationally renowned VFX companies are working on it, so Thamma's final budget is around Rs 125 crore, excluding print and publicity, which is estimated to be in the bracket of Rs 20 crore. The cost of Thamma's final landing will be around Rs 145 crore.
The source also informed that Thamma has surpassed Stree 2 to become the most expensive film in the universe.
"Stree 2 was made on a budget of Rs. 125 crores, including print and publicity. Thamma is almost Rs. 20 crores higher, and producer Dinesh Vijan is placing his bets on Rashmika and Ayushmann to bring in the audience," it shared.
Thamma is a Bollywood horror-comedy with a romantic twist. The film is directed by Aditya Sarpotdar and centres around Indian vampire mythology. The film follows Alok, a historian who delves deeply into ancient texts about vampire legends across two time periods: modern India and the ancient Vijayanagara Empire. In his research, he accidentally awakens an ancient vampire named Yakshasan, who turns him into a vampire.
As Alok adjusts to his new reality, he falls in love with Tadaka, a mysterious female vampire with her own secrets. Their forbidden love is threatened by Yakshasan, who wants to create an army of vampires to dominate mankind. The star-crossed lovers must unite to fight against powerful supernatural entities and familial blood ties that conspire to tear them apart.
