Thandel is one of the most-awaited films in Telugu cinema, featuring Sai Pallavi and Naga Chaitanya in the lead roles. Directed by Chandoo Mondeti, the film has been generating significant buzz, with the director recently revealing some interesting updates about the romantic drama.
Looking back, Chandoo recalled his first meeting with producer Allu Aravind, during which he narrated the story. Aravind was highly impressed and told him that the script was amazing, predicting that Thandel would be a solid hit. However, Chandoo revealed that the veteran producer was initially surprised when he mentioned Naga Chaitanya as the main lead.
"Aravind sir asked me who would play the lead, and when I mentioned Naga Chaitanya’s name, he was taken aback. He told me, ‘Chandoo, this is a raw film. The hero is a fisherman, while Chay has primarily done classy roles. I think you should reconsider the casting,’" Chandoo Mondeti shared.
The director further explained that he convinced the producer by emphasizing Naga Chaitanya’s hunger to prove himself. He assured Aravind that Chay’s transformation into a fisherman would be one of the film’s biggest highlights. "Seeing my strong belief in Chay, Allu Aravind agreed, and the rest is history. The other day, he watched a special screening of Thandel and was blown away by Chay’s performance, calling it his best to date," Chandoo added.
Sai Pallavi plays the female lead, and her role is said to be crucial to the film. A major twist related to her character has been kept under wraps, adding to the intrigue.
Produced by Bunny Vas under the GA2 Pictures banner, Thandel features music by DSP. The three released songs have already become massive hits, further fueling anticipation for the film.
Made on a massive budget of ₹90 crore, more than half of the investment has already been recovered through various post-theatrical rights. Now, all eyes are on whether Thandel will live up to the immense hype surrounding it.
