We at OTTplay previously revealed that Netflix has acquired the film’s digital rights for a massive sum. Reports suggest that Netflix has spent close to ₹60 crore on these rights.
The latest buzz in film circles reveals that Thandel will not be available on OTT until it completes 50 days in theaters. This deal was locked by producer Allu Aravind, who is highly confident about the film's success.
However, Netflix is reportedly in discussions with the makers for an early OTT release in case the film underperforms at the box office. The final decision will become clear once Thandel releases on February 7, 2025.
Game Changer OTT deal changed at the last minute
Looking back, producer Dil Raju made a similar deal with Prime Video for Game Changer, ensuring that the OTT release would take place at least 56 days after its theatrical release. However, since Game Changer bombed at the box office, the agreement was altered, and the film starring Ram Charan will now be available for streaming from February 7, 2025, just under a month after its release. A similar approach is being followed for Thandel. As of now, the film is expected to arrive on OTT only by the third week of March 2025.
Sai Pallavi plays the female lead, and reports suggest that her role will be crucial to the story. Naga Chaitanya portrays a fisherman who gets stranded in Pakistani waters and is arrested. The romantic drama is based on a real-life couple from Vizag, whose story of separation and reunion became a sensational topic a few years ago.
