The streaming partner of Thangalaan, starring Chiyaan Vikram, Parvathy Thiruvothu and Malavika Mohanan, has been revealed.
Netflix has acquired the streaming rights to one of the most awaited Tamil movies of 2024, Thangalaan. Starring Tamil superstar Chiyaan Vikram in the lead role, the film will become available for streaming on this platform after the end of its box office run.
Netflix revealed its 2024 lineup for India on Wednesday, with a particular emphasis on Tamil content aligning with the Pongal celebrations. The streaming giant is set to add a slew of highly anticipated Tamil movies to its catalogue this year, including Thangalaan, Ajith Kumar's Vidaa Muyarchi and Kamal Haasan's Indian 2.
Typically, new Tamil movies make their streaming debut within four weeks of their theatrical releases, particularly when Netflix serves as the official OTT partner. And it might be the same for Thangalaan.
The filmmakers have not yet confirmed the release date for Thangalaan. However, the buzz is that the movie might hit the big screens in April this year.
It's noteworthy that earlier the producers had announced that Thangalaan would arrive in cinemas worldwide on January 26 and also kick-started the promotions. Later, it was postponed without a new release date, citing post-production reasons.
It won't be wrong to say that Thangalaan is the most ambitious movie in director Pa Ranjith's career. The scale and scope of this film are much larger than all of the director's previous films. And the producers, Studio Green and Neelam Productions seem to have bigger plans to take this film to every corner of the world.
Reports also claim that the filmmakers intended to submit Thangalaan to the Oscars. Such is the confidence of the filmmakers in this film.
In Thangalaan, Vikram plays the role of a tribal leader set against the backdrop of colonial India. Based on the teaser , it's safe to assume that this film centres on the conflict between indigenous Indian tribes and the imperial forces that try to enslave and loot what rightfully belongs to the former.
In addition to Vikram, Thangalaan also stars Parvathy Thiruvothu, Malavika Mohanan, Daniel Caltagirone and Harikrishnan Anbudura.
