Sidharth Malhotra and Ajay devgn are all set to bring forth a ‘divine’ laughfest with their upcoming comedy Thank God. The film will see Indra Kumar back in the director’s chair after almost three years. The filmmaker recently opened up about his latest directorial venture.

In conversation with Mid Day, Indra recalled the words of the late lyricist Indeevar, who had spoken of the necessity of shaking oneself up and remaking oneself after 15 years. This had gotten Indra thinking about his hit film Masti (2004), which also starred Ajay, which Indra directed more than 15 years ago. “I needed a change. I thankfully found a subject that resonated with me. Thank God has the usual comedic moments, but it is all heart”, said Indra.

Indra holds hope that the film will hold much more value for people in the post pandemic period. The best way to drive home a philosophical message is with humour, is what Indra believes, and that is what he attempts to do with Thank God. Talking about how people seemed to take everything for granted despite being blessed with so much, Indra said that he wanted to send the message to audiences about the importance of being grateful for the everyday blessings in one’s life.

Indra has worked with Ajay before, collaborating on a number of films including Ishq (1997), Masti and Total Dhamaal (2019). On working with Sidharth on their first project together, Indra was all praise for the Shershaah actor. Saying that Sidharth caught the essence of his character, Indra added that although not many actors would want to essay the role of a flawed man, the actor had ‘lapped t up’.

In addition to Ajay and Sidharth, Thank God also stars Rakul Preet Singh as the female lead, with Nora Fatehi in a special appearance.

Thank God will hit silver screens on October 25.
