The latest Malayalam movie Manjummel Boys seems to be gaining momentum at the box office by the day. Not just in Kerala, but the movie's popularity is also growing in other parts of the country, particularly in Tamil Nadu.

Riding on nostalgic Guna connection

Written and directed by Chidambaram S Poduval, Manjummel Boys has struck a chord with Tamil audiences due to its connection with one of the cult classics of Tamil cinema, Guna. The cave gained popularity as it served as a filming location for Guna, released in 1991. Kamal Haasan played the lead role of Guna in the film, and the cave setting added a surreal and magical element to the narrative.

Judging from the initial reactions, director Chidambaram seems to have used the iconic song Kanmani Anbodu to great effect in the movie, evoking a great sense of nostalgia among Tamil movie fans.

Manjummel Boys wins hearts in Tamil Nadu

Manjummel Boys is a survival drama , centering around a group of friends on a carefree trip to Kodaikanal. Adding an adventurous twist to their vacation, the friends embark on a hike to Devil's Kitchen, also known as Gunaa Cave. However, their enjoyable outing takes a harrowing turn when one of them slips through the cracks and falls into a hole.

The film depicts the struggles of friends, who go to great lengths to find their missing companion. Drawing inspiration from real-life incidents, Manjummel Boys has resonated with audiences, proving its success at the box office.

In Tamil Nadu, moviegoers are also flocking to the cinemas to watch Manjummel Boys. As per industry sources, there is a significant spike in demand for the movie beyond multiplexes and urban theatres. Even B centres have started screening the movie due to growing public interest.

According to CineTrak, on Saturday, Manjummel Boys earned more than Rs 20 lakh in theatrical earnings in Tamil Nadu. The film's total collection at the Tamil Nadu box office has now exceeded Rs 35 lakh, solidifying its position as one of the top-performing movies in the region.

Manjummel Boys stars an ensemble cast including Soubin Shahir, Sreenath Bhasi, Balu Varghese, Ganapathi S. Poduval and Lal Jr. among others.
