Harshvardhan Kapoor is set to share the screen space with his father Anil Kapoor in a desi Western thriller Thar, which had its trailer release event in Mumbai today.

This is not the first time Harshvardhan has worked with his father on screen, for he had briefly appeared in the 2020 movie AK vs AK, directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, as himself.

The young actor does not have a long list of movies to boast about just yet but he has collaborated with Netflix a fair bit.

First was the 2018 movie Bhavesh Joshi Superhero, which did not fare well among the mainstream audience, but gained a cult following especially after it was made available on the streamer. Then came the Satyajit Ray anthology Ray, directed by Vasan Bala. Harshvardhan featured prominently in the short titled "Spotlight", based on the Bengali auteur's short story of the same name.

At the press event for Thar, the actor spoke about his partnership with Netflix, where he said he only feels "indebted" to the streamer and the team that has worked with him.

"I hope they still want to work with me after this one. Because I've really, you know, pushed for what I wanted," said Harshvardhan. He continued that now is an interesting world to live in because "you can make something and stream it anywhere on the planet."

I think the ability to do that through this platform is you can't put a price on it. You can't predict who your story is going to touch and what part of the world [it will reach]. There is an incredibly broad spectrum of people that subscribe to Netflix," he explained.

Harshvardhan said that the pressure of releasing one's work on an OTT platform like Netflix takes the emphasis away from the first-day box office collection as well as other concerns that come with taking the traditional route. "It just puts you at rest where it just becomes about the film," he said.

The actor extended his gratitude for being able to work with Netflix, "They're great producers, they're sensitive and empathetic towards the artist. This is why you get to see AK vs AK or Ray. A film like Bhavesh Joshi doesn't do well in cinemas but thrives on Netflix, it will always be there. No matter what happens, wherever I go, I'll always be indebted to them."

Besides playing a lead role in Thar, Harshvardhan is also the movie's producer along with Anil. In this thriller, he plays Siddharth, an antique dealer of sorts who encounters Surekha Singh (Anil), a cop investigating a series of mysterious deaths. Thar is directed by Raj Singh Chaudhary and also stars Fatima Sana Shaikh, Akshay Oberoi and Satish Kaushik.

The movie will release on Netflix on May 6. Watch the trailer here —
