Malayalam film director Tharun Moorthy struck gold with his third directorial, Thudarum, which starred superstar Mohanlal in the lead role. Ajay Devgn in Hindi remake of Mohanlal's Thudarum?

Thudarum is a 2025 Malayalam film, which starred Mohanlal in the lead role of Benz Shanmughan, a former stuntman turned cab driver in a small town in Kerala. Going by the trend of Malayalam movies getting remade in other languages, especially Hindi, Tharun was asked who would play Mohanlal’s role in a recent interview with News Today. The director of National Award-winning Saudi Vellakka named Ajay Devgn as the actor would be able to better understand the emotional depth of the character.

"Enquiries about remakes are coming from Hindi and Telugu (industries). Efforts are on for Ajay Devgn, because of his background. Since his father was stunt master, he would be able to get the emotion right,” he remarked. For the unversed, Ajay’s father is Veeru Devgan, hailed by many as the ‘greatest stunt director’.

While Tharun said that such discussions were happening, nothing has reached the final conclusive stage. When asked if he would direct the film in Hindi, Tharun quipped that let him first direct Malayalam films and attain a certain stature.

After Drishyam, Thudarum?

If Thudarum does get a Hindi remake with Ajay Devgn in the lead, then that would mark yet another Mohanlal film for the actor after the Drishyam movies. Ajay leads the Hindi versions of Drishyam 1 and 2, that have also attained a huge popularity, much like the original. Drishyam 3 in Malayalam has already wrapped up shooting, while the Hindi version is expected to go on floors soon.

On the other hand, Tharun recently announced his next project with Mohanlal.
