The Adam Project had stoked fans’ excitement for a host of reasons. Its promising premise, stellar cast aside, the film also boasts of the most recent collaboration between Ryan Reynolds and filmmaker Shawn Levy after Free Guy. Levy recently opened up about the film while in conversation with Karan Johar.

In an interview shared by Netflix, Levy told Johar that his purpose when it came to filmmaking was to make audiences happy. In a cynical world, the director said that he said he wanted people to connect to his films in a ‘joyous manner’, a sentiment echoed by Reynolds.

Rather than making a film to convey a topic or idea, he wanted to tell a story that audiences could connect with emotionally. He said that the whole point of the film was to make the audiences ‘feel’ and through The Adam Project he wanted to create an ‘emotional spectacle’.

“I am well aware that the cinema of India is unabashedly devoted to the audience's delight, audience joy and audience warmth, and those are the movies I love from any culture.” added Levy.

Levy also talked about how easy it was to convince the film’s lead cast to come on board. The filmmaker said that the actors immediately connected with the film’s premise and ‘fundamental richness’ as well.

Johar also opened up about what resonated with him the most in the film, saying that he had teared up while watching it. Johar talked about how he was left emotional after the film and moved by the father-son relationship that the film’s story focussed on. He also opened up about his favourite scene in the film, amongst other things, while in conversation with Levy.

The Adam Project is now streaming on Netflix.
