It won't be an exaggeration to say that fans think daily about the excitement they will experience watching The Batman Part II in theatres in October 2026. By the time the Robert Pattinson starrer sequel hits the big screen as part of the successful The Batman Epic Crime Saga, led by filmmaker Matt Reeves, it will have been four years since the first part was released in 2022. There have been so many rumors about the Reeves directorial that, at one point, it was difficult to track what was substantial and what was not. However, in his recent interviews since the finale of The Penguin, Reeves has been vocal about the movie, sharing concrete details about the sequel. He is now talking about the plot and how it delves into Batman's dilemma.
For the uninitiated, it’s already well-known that The Batman Part II is set to pick up where the first film left off and take cues from The Penguin, which concluded with Oz Cobb becoming the crime boss of Gotham. Gotham is still grappling with the aftermath of the floods, with water lingering in low-lying areas, creating an even greater divide between the elite and the marginalized. As the sequel is set in winter, the water will freeze into ice, complicating matters further, as will Bruce Wayne's deepening moral dilemma.
Talking about the sequel's entry point, Matt Reeves, as per Comic Book Movie, said:
"There's a lot of unrest and a lot of clamoring because of the revelations at the end of the [first] movie. There's unrest in the streets, saying, 'Well, how could this be?' The idea that this corruption extends as deep as it does. In the first movie, Batman views things very simplistically, he sees things in black and white. What he can represent and how he can affect that.”

He added: “As we enter into the next movie, there's a lot more grey. There are a lot more people at odds. There’s a lot more division in the city. It's much like our world now; there's a lot of turmoil because people are in their camps and aren't communicating. How does Batman fit into that? Where do you fit? It's not as clear as saying, 'Oh yeah, bad guy, I go after bad guys.' And when things are grey, it makes it very hard to be Batman. So this is part of the challenge as we enter it."
The Batman Part II is one of the most anticipated movies. The team is scheduled to begin shooting in 2025, and the film is currently in the pre-production stage. In the same interview, Matt Reeves was asked about progress on the movie. He confirmed that the script is complete and filming begins next year. "Oz does become one of the entry points into the movie. I can't tell you where it goes from there, except to say that we're super excited about it," he teased. The Batman Part II is set for an October 2, 2026 release.
