The Batman is being hailed as one of the finest superhero films to come out in recent times. Starring Robert Pattinson as the titular superhero, the new film sees the caped crusader face off against Paul Dano’s Riddler. In a recently released deleted scene from the film, fans got to see a glimpse of one of the most celebrated Batman villains of all time- the Joker. Barry Keoghan took on the iconic role this time, after popular stars such as Heath Ledger, Jared Leto and Jack Nicholson’s renditions. The scene elicited strong responses from fans, who flocked to Twitter to voice their thoughts.
Even though Keoghan had big shoes to fill, his rendition of the character seemed to have gone over quite well with most fans. Many were blown away by how scary Keoghan’s portrayal of the character was. ‘Formidable’, ‘maniacally brilliant’ and ‘terrifying’ were some of the words used to describe the character. One user even said that the portrayal reminded them of a work in the psychological horror genre. Another remarked that the character was going to be ‘the next big thing’ in the DC cinematic universe.
The ‘terrifying’ portrayal certainly managed to stoke fans’ excitement and expectations for the film’s sequel. One fan said that the character seemed to be someone you see in nightmares.
The ‘evil laugh’ of Keough’s character was also singled out by some fans.
However, there were some people who were not impressed by Keough’s Joker. While one user said that he was copying Ledger’s portrayal of the character from The Dark Knight, another called the design the ‘worst ever’.
Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman also featured Zoë Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell.
