The Batman saw Robert Pattinson take on the role of DC’s popular caped crusader, in an adaptation that has been hailed as one of the best live action onscreen depictions of the character till date by many. After a stellar theatrical run, where the film raked in more than $750 million in box office earnings, the superhero film is making its way onto OTT.
The superhero film followed Bruce Wayne/The Batman as he investigates the string of murders committed by The Riddler, whose MO involves leaving the hero cryptic messages in the form of riddles. Joining him in his quest to bring the villain to justice is the mysterious Selina Kyle and police officer James Gordon.
Pattinson stars as the titular character, while Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright and Andy Serkis essay the roles of Selina Kyle, The Riddler, James Gordon and Alfred Pennyworth respectively. John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, and Colin Farrell also essay pivotal roles in the film.
Matt Reeves has directed the film, from a script written by him along with Peter Craig. A reboot of the Batman film series, the film is the first instalment in an intended shared universe featuring the titular character. Two sequels of the same are reportedly in the works, as well as a spin off television show for HBO Max.
The Batman opened to critical acclaim. Part of the review of the film on OTTplay reads “The Batman has exceeded expectations and will go down in history as one of the greatest iterations of the character since Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight (2008)”.
