The Believers OTT release date – Watch the Thai thriller full of faith, fraud, and fortune on THIS platform

Directed by Thailand’s up-and-coming filmmaker Wattanapong Wongwan, The Believers poses a valid question, where does the line blur between faith and fraudulency at religious institutions, especially with donations. Not intended at insulting any religious sentiment, but to clear the murky shades surrounding the topic, director Wattanapong simply seeks to find answers through the characters and their stories.

The Believers will be releasing on Netflix. Streaming from March 27, 2024, onwards, the series also dropped its trailer today. The series is set against the lush and soothing backdrop of Thailand’s natural beauty, her oceans and quaint monasteries, which serves a sharp and impactful contrast with its gradually metastasizing urban jungle.

The Believers follows an unlucky trio of friends who try their hand at startups, Game, an overzealous and adventurous teenager with ideas and funding, Win, a computer engineering dropout who looks after marketing, and Dear, a graphic designer who also oversees their public relations. But all their ideas burn out and they are left with a massive loan of THB 25 million, to be paid back in double on time.

As a warning, Game is pretty roughed up by the loan sharks, and he is struck by an idea while recuperating alone in his room. After convincing the other two of his 2000-year-old business plan, the underdogs get down to business. They take hold of the lone Phummaram Temple and begin by getting a ‘brand’ monk into their business, by dealing both above and under the table.

But as time passes and the friends begin to see the glow of success, chaos erupts and soon the three become involved as suspects of a murder they never committed. The Believers potently portrays the themes of murder, mystery, corruption, social commentary, and politics, in a never-seen-before avatar, without losing on the fun.
