The Blacklist follows the life of Raymond ‘Red’ Reddington (James Spader), a former US Naval Intelligence officer who goes off the grid and then becomes one of the FBI's Most Wanted Fugitives. After evading capture by the FBI for years, in a strange move Red surrenders himself and offers up a list of the most dangerous and vile criminals he has brushed paths with, in exchange for his safety. He is then teamed up with an FBI task force, led by Assistant Director Harold Cooper (Harry Lennix) and a core team, including profiler Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone), Donald Ressler (Diego Klattenhoff), Dembe Zuma (Hisham Tawfiq), Aram Mojtabai (Amir Arison), as series regulars.

Megan Boone, around whose character much of the narrative revolved, left the show after eight seasons, while Amir Arison announced his departure at the end of the ninth. In the past, Mozhan Marno, who was thought to be a regular as Samar Navabi, left at the end of season six. After Boone’s departure, and her character’s death, the showrunners tried valiantly to keep her ‘alive’ by having Red chase the people responsible for her demise. With that chapter closed, this season will now be about Red and his enterprise staying afloat, as the criminal underworld is made aware of his deal with the FBI and the fact that he’s put many behind bars. This season a new character, Siya Malik (Arya Banerjee), will be introduced. Siya, as it turns out, is the daughter of CIA agent Meera Malik (Parminder Nagra), who was murdered in season 1 of the show.
