Amir Arison has been a part of NBC’s The Blacklist since the beginning, playing the FBI’s special task force’s tech wizard, Agent Aram Mojtabi. In fact, when his character was elevated as boss of the task force owing to the events of Season 9, it seemed that the showrunners had great plans for Amir. But turns out, that was just their way of giving him a good send-off. Amir is leaving The Blacklist.

At the end of Season 9, as the team congregated at Agent Keen’s (Megan Boone) grave to pay respects, Aram announced that he was going to take some time off from the force, and maybe catch a Broadway show, which at that point just seemed as a plot point that the showrunners would explore when The Blacklist returns for a 10th season. But that’s not the case, as the actor revealed on social media. Amir’s bagged a role in the Broadway adaptation of The Kite Runner, an opportunity that he says was too good to let go off.

“The Kite Runner is one of the most extraordinary novels I have ever read and its stage adaptation for Broadway is both breathtaking and timely. I could not pass up the opportunity to fulfil another childhood dream,” he wrote, adding that the showrunners of The Blacklist were incredibly supportive of his decision and that Aram remains alive with the potential return at some point.

“The Blacklist has changed my life – I have made lifelong friends, learned so much along the way and have met countless wonderful people from all over the world who support the show. It is not lost on me how lucky I am to have been able to work and evolve with a role for 9 years with this special cast and crew, and so many dedicated artists. I can’t wait to see what Season 10 has in store, I’ll be watching and I also can’t wait to dive into The Kite Runner on Broadway,” he wrote.
