Jeymes Samuel and LaKeith Stanfield reunite after The Harder They Fall (2020) to make another masterpiece together. The Book of Clarence is a biblical comedy that will break its genre stereotype and emerge on the other side without using religion as a curtain to explore other themes. Instead, it will use it as a backdrop, based on which the story’s protagonist, Clarence, travels from sin to redemption, or from greed to faith.
The film is all set for a theatrical release on January 12, 2024. Produced by Legendary Pictures and Columbia Pictures, The Book of Clarence will be distributed by Sony Pictures. The film is written and helmed by Jeymes Samuel, who will also develop original scores for it.
Produced by Shawn ‘Jay Z’ Carter, James Lassiter, and Tendo Nagenda and executive produced by Garrett Grant, The Book of Clarence will boast a complete and promising crew, including Rob Hardy as the film’s cinematographer.
The film has dropped a teaser and a trailer, both of which offer a proper glimpse of the plot. Clarence is an underprivileged, desperate young man who wishes to make it big. The year is 29 AD, and Jesus’ influence is booming everywhere. Enthralled by the status and apparent wealth his 12 apostles possess, Clarence sets out to begin his own ‘messiah’ business.
Performing fake miracles in the biblical era and garnering throngs of followers sets him on an unanticipated path of revelation and realisation, resulting in him developing faith and ethics, perhaps for the first time in his life. Full of love, comic moments, emotional touches, and thoughtful touches of genius, the film promises to make you think without being boring or preaching.
The Book of Clarence also features a talented cast, comprising the likes of LaKeith Stanfield, Omar Sy, James McAvoy, Anna Diop, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Anna Diop in the leading roles.
