Netflix has dropped a first look at Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II in Season 5 of The Crown.

Imelda Staunton, from the Harry Potter movie series who played the role of Defense Against the Dark Arts professor Dolores Umbridge, has replaced Olivia Colman to play the role of Queen Elizabeth II in the fifth season of The Crown which is currently underway.

he stunning picture of the brand new Queen Elizabeth II was posted on The Crown’s official Twitter Page and the fans of the show cannot keep calm and are retweeting out of excitement.

Staunton is a BAFTA winner for her stunning performance in the movie, Vera Drake and also an Academy Award and Emmy nominee. In The Crown she succeeds Claire Foy who played the character in Seasons 1 and 2, who earned an Emmy along the way and Olivia Colman in Seasons 3 and 4 and who is presently nominated for Emmy for the second time.

Other roles in season five of the critically acclaimed historical series include Jonathan Pryce from Game of Thrones as Prince Philip, Elizabeth Debicki from The Night Manager as Princess Diana, Lesley Manville from Phantom Thread and Dominic West from the series The Affair as Prince Charles respectively.

In addition, Jonny Lee Miller from the American drama series, Elementary will play the role of John Mayor, who served as the Prime minister and leader of the UK’s conservative party from 1990-1997. Prior to that, he served as Chancellor of the Exchequer and Foreign Secretary under Margaret Thatcher from 1997 to 1990.
