Veteran actor Ratna Pathak Shah feels that Bollywood no longer creates garbage in the name of movies and is marching towards a glorious path. The actor also thinks that the Indian industry’s growth is parallel to the apparent downfall of West cinema. She was talking to PTI recently while sharing her deeper insights on the cinema world.
Shah thinks that Indian cinema is now in the spotlight as new makers have arrived with brave stories. “We were genuinely laughable, today we are not. Though we are not there yet, we are struggling and trying to make better things out of it,” she continued.
According to Shah, we are making shows and films that stand out. We will be put on the mainstream soon, and the current phase we achieved is hard-earned.
She was asked if it hurts her while people disdain the entertainment industry, to which she answered yes. Many criticise the lack of value and call it a menace, which she thinks is true to an extent. She thinks we have trivialised everything. Even though not all of it, a large portion of the films are ‘garbage’, according to her, while only a small portion has something worth in itself.
Shah has been part of some notable and most acclaimed films such as Kapoor and Sons, Lipstick Under My Burkha and Thappad. She also thinks that the film industry deserves ongoing criticism for bringing up the mediocre content in the past.
The actor recently was seen in the movie Hum Do Hamare Do and will be seen next in Jayeshbhai Jordaar alongside Ranveer Singh.
