Kareena Kapoor Khan spent the summer filming with co-stars Jaideep Ahlawat and Vijay Varma in the scenic locations of Darjeeling and Kalimpong for the cinematic adaption of The Devotion of Suspect X. The team has now returned to Mumbai to continue their investigation into the murder case. Sujoy Ghosh, the director, is said to have set the stage for a three-week run in the city.
A source told Mid Day that this week, the crew did workshops for specific important sequences. The shoot will begin next week at a popular studio in Mumbai, where a set has been erected by the production design team. While Sujoy has largely interior scenes planned for this stint, certain key moments will be shot outside. Ghosh is eager to finish the film before the Mumbai monsoon peaks in July.
The Netflix film is based on Japanese novelist Keigo Higashino's best-selling novel of the same name, which follows a single mother who murders her ex-husband by accident. Her mathematical neighbour assists her in covering up the crime while remaining one step ahead of the investigating police officer, resulting in a battle of wits.
Suspect X, directed by Hiroshi Nishitani and starring Shinichi Tsutsumi as Tetsuya Ishigami and Masaharu Fukuyama as Manabu Yukawa, was released in Japan in 2008. Perfect Number, a 2012 South Korean film adaptation directed by Bang Eun-jin, stars Ryoo Seung-bum, Lee Yo-won, and Cho Jin-woong.
Kross Pictures bought the English language film adaptation rights in 2011 and is developing it in Los Angeles, California under the working title The Devotion of Suspect X. Kolaigaran, a Tamil film released in 2019, was based on the book.
A Chinese film adaptation, The Devotion of Suspect X, was released in 2017. Alec Su directed the film, which starred Ruby Lin and Wang Kai.
