John Abraham fans have been waiting with bated breath for their favorite star to return to the big screen. When the actor announced The Diplomat, excitement soared. The film is based on the real-life incident in which the late former Foreign Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj helped an Indian woman stranded in Pakistan return home with the assistance of a diplomat stationed across the border. After generating significant promotional buzz and anticipation, the movie is now set to hit the big screen. But even before its theatrical release, we have learned where it will land on streaming once its run in cinemas concludes. Read on to find out everything you need to know.
The makers released the trailer of the movie on the birth anniversary of the late Shri Sushma Swaraj, paying homage to her pivotal efforts in 2017 when she supported Indian diplomat J.P. Singh in bringing India’s daughter back home. Setting the stage for an intense political thriller, the film highlights how tact and negotiation—rather than war—serve as the protagonist’s ultimate weapons. The Diplomat is set to release in theaters on March 14, 2025. Meanwhile, here are 8 John Abraham movies you must watch; bonus - some are on OTTplay Premium!
Once the film concludes its theatrical run, it already has a streaming platform secured. According to the streaming partner slate attached to the theatrical cut, The Diplomat will be available on Netflix after its time in cinemas. While the exact release date on streaming is yet to be confirmed, if the standard release window is considered, the film is expected to land on OTT approximately 90 days after its theatrical release.
Speaking about the film, John Abraham shared, "Diplomacy is a battlefield where words carry more weight than weapons. Playing J.P. Singh allowed me to explore a world where power is defined by intellect, resilience, and quiet heroism. Uzma’s story is a testament to India’s strength and courage, and I’m proud to bring this inspiring journey to life on screen."
Director Shivam Nair added, "The Diplomat is a tribute to the unsung heroes who wield strategy and patience to protect their nation. Through J.P. Singh’s story, we’ve captured the art of diplomacy—where tact triumphs over aggression—and John’s performance perfectly embodies this spirit of resilience and strength."
The film marks a shift for John Abraham, portraying a character deeply rooted in strategy, intellect, and negotiation—showcasing a strong-headed and dynamic avatar unlike any seen before. Releasing on March 14, 2025, The Diplomat is produced by Bhushan Kumar & Krishan Kumar (T-Series), John Abraham (JA Entertainment), Vipul D. Shah, Ashwin Varde, Rajesh Bahl (Wakaoo Films), and Sameer Dixit, Jatish Varma, Rakesh Dang (Fortune Pictures/Seeta Films).
