Malayalam actress Bhavana’s Tamil film The Door is special for several reasons. The movie helmed by brother Jaiiddev and produced by husband Naveen Rajan, marks her comeback to the industry after a gap of 13 years.
In an exclusive chat with OTTplay, Jaiiddev, who has been working in the Tamil industry for the past 13 years, tells us that the movie is a “thriller with a tinge of horror”.
The team had released the first look poster of the movie on Bhavana’s birthday on June 6. “We had completed the shoot of the movie a few months ago and we are currently in the final phase of post-production. We are looking at a theatrical release but the final decision rests on Naveen, the film’s producer,” says Jaiiddev, who had previously helmed the Tamil film Pattinapakkam in 2018.
The Door has also primarily been made in Tamil. “We are planning to release the movie in other languages including Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam,” he explains.
On directing his sister for the film, Jaiiddev says, “At home, none of us truly know how Bhavana is as an artiste because for me, she’s my younger sister. Though I have seen her act, directing her was a totally different experience.”
Further on her process, the filmmaker explains, “She’s a thorough professional and is greatly involved. For instance, her character’s arc is important to the story and I had explained it to her just once. But that was all she needed. She knew exactly what sort of emotions were needed and where the incidents happened in the movie. Neither me nor the assistant directors had to remind her of that. She gives her 100% to the role and as a director, I am happy with the whole experience.”
Apart from Bhavana, the movie also stars Ganesh Venkatram, Jayaprakash, Nandhu, Sriranjini, Kapil Velavan and Priya Venkat in pivotal roles.
