The comedian's latest special, titled The Dreamer, premiered on Netflix on December 31. The special predominantly delves into his formative years in the entertainment industry and explores how he brought about his own success. Here is how you can access details of it.

Filmed at the Lincoln Theatre in Chappelle's hometown of Washington D.C., The Dreamer marks the comedian's seventh stand-up special exclusively available on Netflix.

About The Dreamer

In the opening of the special, Chappelle shares an anecdote about visiting Jim Carrey during the filming of the 1999 movie "Man on the Moon," where Carrey fully embraced method acting to portray comedian Andy Kaufman. Why was Dave Chappelle in the news recently?

Chappelle has faced criticism in recent years for his frequent remarks about the transgender community, notably in his 2021 Netflix special "The Closer." The contentious content led to walk-outs and protests by Netflix employees in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community. Initially, Netflix's Ted Sarandos defended the comedian and his artistic freedom in a memo to Netflix employees but later admitted that he "screwed up" in his response to the controversy.

Variety reports that a picture of Sarandos and Chappelle smiling together is shown during the credits of “The Dreamer.”
