The trailer for The Eken, starring Anirban Chakraborti released today. The film, directed by Joydeep Mukherjee will see the titular detective stomp the big screen with his lovable antics and sharp mind.

Eken Babu’s two trusted sidekicks, Somak Ghosh and Suhotra Mukhopadhyay, are also here to help the sleuth out of unforeseen trepidations.

In the trailer, the quintessential “maachey bhaatey” Bengali detective Eken Babu goes out on a vacation to Darjeeling and crosses paths with Bipasha Mitra (Paayel Sarkar), a lady filled with debonair and elegance. A rather unexpected request comes from her end to investigate an antique idol that goes missing. Eken Babu can’t refuse her proposal. And the plot thickens gradually when a murder takes place. Into this chaos, Eken Babu still manages to crack some rather quirky one-liners when he smirks and asks, “What do you call a hill’s smile in one word?” and he ends up replying, “Hill-LOL”.

The big-screen outing promises to deliver a thrilling, exciting, fun-filled adventure. The trailer shows the beloved, bumbling detective Eken Babu chasing the bad guys through the hilly slopes and misty hairpin turns of the mountains.

Disguised as an ordinary Misti Bengali man, Eken Babu will hunt down the bad man with style and chic. Poila Baisakh is going to be very special for Eken Babu fans.

The very talented Debasish Mondal of Mandaar-fame will also play a prominent role in the movie.

Incidentally, the very first leg of Eken Babu started streaming on Hoichoi on March 3, 2018. Anirban Mallik directed it, and later due to increasing public demand, hoichoi brought out a second season on November 10 in the same year. The second season was directed by Anupam Hari. The show carried on for 5 seasons and last year Hoichoi announced the first big-screen release, The Eken.

The film’s theme song, composed by Aamlaann Chakraabarty, written by Godhuli Sharma and crooned by Cactus frontman Siddartha Roy (Sidhu), will be launched on April 3.

The Eken is backed by SVF and the movie is slated to be released on April 14, a day before the Bengali New Year. And what an amazing way to start a new calendar.
