In 1977, a suburban London home plagued with inexplicable rumblings would become the subject of global media scrutiny. Single mother Peggy Hodgson and her two daughters, Margaret, 13, and Janet, 11, would encounter extremely strange activity inside their house in the form of furniture being flung around, unexplained knocks on the doors, disembodied voices and so much more. Soon enough, they would be convinced it was the deed of a poltergeist, and that everything around them was nothing but paranormal activity.

The gravity of the situation was further intensified when local cops, too, began to witness the bizarreness and before anyone realized it, the house was submerged in media and public attention. The same case is the subject of a new limited documentary series which, in essence, is a retelling of the original saga.

Titled The Enfield Poltergeist, which refers to the town of Enflied in North London where the Hodgsons resided, is set to cast a new light on one of the most widely discussed poltergeist cases in modern history but before we dive deeper into its workings, here's the trailer:

When and where to watch The Enfield Poltergeist

The Enfield Poltergeist will be a four-part documentary series that will feature a blend of recreated portions of the actual events, accounts of the real people who were involved in them and the actual audio recordings of the disturbances and other sounds caused by the "entity".

"What you are seeing is a reimagining of those events. But what you are about to hear is real," warns the narrator in the voiceover heard in the trailer, meaning that the makers of the show have tried to imbue their work with some level of authenticity.

The Enfield Poltergeist is set to premiere on Apple TV+ on October 27, 2023, with all four episodes expected to drop on the same day.

What to expect from The Enfield Poltergeist

Of course, the events inside the Hodgsons' home inspired the plot of The Conjuring 2 and nor is the upcoming Apple TV+ show the first attempt at capturing the true story. However, the first few glimpses suggest that this could be a comprehensive take on the events that gripped the entire world with unseen footage, voice recordings and interviews featuring paranormal investigators, reporters, bystanders, journalists, cops, etc., too, being a part of its long narrative. The pre-premiere reviews of the show have already hailed The Enfield Poltergeist as the best documentary on Apple TV+ which means that the limited series could well become the new entrant to your binge list.
