After much anticipation, the makers of Manoj Bajpayee starrer web series The Family Man finally announced the release date of the second season in the trailer video last week. Although The Family Man 2 trailer mostly gathered positive reviews, it also sparked controversy for allegedly hurting Tamil sentiments. The second season of the popular series has Samantha Akkineni playing the antagonist that some have touted to be a terrorist having links with Pakistan. This also led to a lot of trolling and flak on social media along with some protests which left the Akkineni family worried.

Talking about the protest, a source closer to the Akkineni family told Bollywood Hungama, “Nagarjuna is no stranger to protests and attacks. But he won’t tolerate his children being attacked. And Sam, as he affectionately calls her, is like a daughter of the family. Nagarjuna gets very upset to see any of his children in a vulnerable situation.” The source also mentioned that the Wild Dog actor is super annoyed by this unnecessary protest.

Earlier in a statement, Raj and DK mentioned, “Some assumptions and impressions have been made based on just a couple of shots in the trailer. Many of our lead cast members, as well as key members of the creative & writing team, are Tamilians. We are very cognizant of the sentiments of the Tamil people and Tamil culture and have nothing but the utmost love and respect towards our Tamil people.”

Hopefully, once the show premieres, the controversy too will die down. Meanwhile, Samantha has been reportedly advised by the makers of the show to not comment on the matter.

The Family Man 2 will premiere on June 4 on Amazon Prime Video. Apart from Manoj Bajpayee the series also stars Priyamani with Sharib Hashmi, Seema Biswas, Darshan Kumar, Sharad Kelkar, Sunny Hinduja and Shreya Dhanwantary in significant roles.
